A Day In The Life of a Twink

Ishnu-alah. My name is Dakoneris, and I am a twink.

Being a twink is a path very different from that taken by other adventurers. I no longer explore new lands, fight monsters, or defend the lost and helpless. My abilities do not grow with time. Because my gear is, or nearly is, the best available, I have no need to replace it. Instead, my goal is purely to assist the Silverwing Sentinels defend Warsong Gulch from those who would cut down its trees and desecrate the land.

Why does Team Ratshag have a twink on its roster? My role on the team has been to provide knowledge; primarily of Player vs Player combat, but also initially it was to provide knowledge of the Alliance. For a time I was the most seasoned Alliance member of the Team, and I was able to provide advice to those who came later, such as Miss Palintera and Miss Phoenicia, as well as Mister Ratshag himself. I believe Mister Ratshag also derives some vicarious enjoyments from hearing of my adventures.

For myself, I do this to support my family. By being a twink, not only am I able to provide a good living for my wife Alynn and my daughter Kalandra, but I am able to return to Teldrassil every evening. To me, this is worth far more than the opportunity to see the Blasted Lands or Hellfire Peninsula or any other treeless wasteland. I respect the desire of others to acquire wealth or fame or power, but that is not for me. I will get to watch my daughter grow up in a stable home, and that is riches enough for this warrior.

Every day, I check in with either a Silverwing Battlemaster or Emissary, to receive my assignments. Because the ritualized rules of the Gulch require a near-even balance of forces, and there are many more Alliance adventurers than Horde in my Battlegroup, there is often a need to wait before entering combat.

To help provide an income for my family, as well as to pass the time, I often spend the slow times between battles doing mining sweeps in Elwynn Forest. There is plenty of copper here, which sells well, and the local denizens are usually wise enough to keep their distance.

My preference is to do battle alongside my guildmates from Farstriders Elite, particularly my friend Miss Aurum. However, yesterday there were no other nineteenth season members online, and so I entered the Gulch with strangers. I did have the opportunity to say hello to Miss Hydrargyrum, though, and that was a pleasure, as always. She had been most kind and helpful in my efforts to acquire my gear, and I am honored to call her a friend, even if she is almost evil.

Here are the results from battles, each a good example of how things can proceed in Warsong Gulch. In the first, I was able to defend the flag room, using my Shadowmeld and Charge abilities to ambush those who attempt to take our flag. Because our team had the advantage in this round, there were few intruders, and my kills and damage results were fairly low. Because my goal is always to win, to grasp for glory, I am quite satisfied.

This battle went very differently, however. I arrived after it had already begun, and the Alliance had already organized a turtle defense. While an impressive display of cooperation, there was no one left to attempt to capture the Horde flag, meaning that victory could not be achieved. And so I set out to do what I could to break the enemy defenses. One time I was able to kill enough defenders that a teammate could grab the flag and make a clean getaway. Unfortunately, this was our only success of the battle, and the defensive turtle eventually broke down. Having the most damage done for my side was hardly satisfying.

And that was a typical day for this twink. Some wins, some losses, some skills further refined. And home to Alynn and little Kala at the end.

May the Goddess watch over you.

Friday Night Dakoneris

Whiles the power forward of the Gnomeregan-in-Exile women's basketball team were showing me her full court press, Dakoneris the boingy-eared twinky were out earning his keep. It being Whore's Thong Gulch weekend and alls.

His first round of the evening the Ninnies put up a team full of season 12 and 13 rookies with like, I dunno, 37 health each. It were a pretty lopsided affair. But when they was about to wins, the call went out to drop the flag and go camp the hordies GY, which about 7 or so of his team promptly did. Dak pointed out that this were boring and not cool and let's just finish'em and get some more interesting opponents, but that got nowheres. So he goes and finds the flag and runs it in hisself. This were in keeping with his guild's policy of treating the enemy with respect, which I fully supports. Had the original FC held onto the flag and prevented him from finishing it, he were prepared to dance naked in the Horde graveyard to protest, but fortunatelies fer his elfish dignity this were not required.

Then he hooked up with some of his guildies and, in between battlefields, they did some 5v5 arenas. In his first time in that category (which actually ended up as a 4v4, but whatevers) he learned an important lesson. If Everyone But You is stealthed, You Is A Target. A lesson brought home by a sudden swarm of two-foot tall rogues what dropped him like a sack of potatoes. Afterwards he tried running into the arena and then quickly shadowmelding, what helped some.

Unlikes the Hall of the Brave in Org, in Stormwind they gives ya something to do whiles ya wait fer the battleground to pop. Here be me friend Aurum, the best dressed bank alt on her server, catching up on some light reading.

Whore's Thong Gulch Weekend

This past weekend were bonus honor at Warped Swan Gulch, and while Team Ratshag didn't have a lot of time available, three of us did end up venturing in fer a bit. First up were Dakoneris the boingy-eared twinky. He managed to hook up with a bunch of his twinky guildies for the first time in his short career, and they hit the place like a sledgehammer hitting an onion. Major, major spankage. At least it were over quick fer the ninnies' side. Dakoneris also informs me that he has acquired a white woolen dress, so that he can be better prepared for the next time. Ummm .... yeah. Whatevers.

Next up were DangerMouse. Now that little piece of rottenflesh has been doing a damn fine job of bootstrapping herself up and buying much improved gear, and I's damn proud of her, but she's still only got half the health of Dakoneris and she ain't never gonna be a terror of the 10-19 class. Nevertheless. When she got herself inta the Alliance flag room and was all set to pick up the flag, only to have a thirteenth season troll with maybes 200 health beat her to it, she gained a better appreciation of some of Out of Megan's complaints about thems what ain't helping. "Fool! Drop the flag and let me carry it. And be quick! I haven't got all day," she hissed at him. "Lolz! L2play, nub," he replied, and ran down the tunnel with it, where he was promptly turned inta troll-ka-bob by the Silverwingies. Even so, the Alliance had even more low-levelers on they side than Mouse had on hers, and her team were able to prevail fairly easily.

Then it were me turn. Normalies, I'd pass on Horse On Gulch, it not being me favorite, but it were the daily as well as the weekend, so I figures what the hey, I'll take the extra honor. To me surprise, when I popped inta the get-ready room, there were Sabiba and Sabretooth, a coupla readers of this here blog. Well, Sabiba is anyways; probablies not so much the cat. She were looking rather piratey fer a belf hunter, but what can ya expect of someone willing to eat them freaky Wailing Cavern fishies? We exchanges a few pleasantries, and then the fight were on. And on. And on. After the first hour or so I were remembering why I don't like doing Ping Pong Gulch - them Silverwingies kept turtling up with a buncha druids doing heals and it were dang near impossible to get out flag back from them. But with the score tied 2-2 they finally made a mistake and tried ta zerg our flag carrier, all ten of them at once. And we managed to beat them back and recover our flag in the process. "CAP IT!@#%" Sabiba yells at our flag carrier, and he did. Phew. Collected me marks and got the fuhg outta there.

Afters Sabiba told me that I'd made her job lots easier by getting the other side to focus on me, freeing her up to do her dps thing. Which were real nice to hear, 'cause that's what I's trying to do, get in the casters' faces be a big pain in the arse what cain't be ignored, but it be hard to tell sometimes how well it's working when yer in the middle of the chaos.

Boingy-Ears' Big Debut

Keeping good on her promise ta run Dak through dungeons 'til his eyes bleed, me friend Hydra took him into the Stockades and Blackfathom Depths the other night, so's he could pick up a ring and some bracers. A little grinding in Westfall, and the bugger reached his nineteenth season and put on the rest of his gear.

At this point his health be running around 1300, which is way more than I had at that point in me career, and three times what little DangerMouse was packing last weekend. And he ain't gotten off his lazy arse and gotten his enchants done, so that'll probably add another couple hundred. So, time ta put it to some use.

This be Warts On Gulch weekend, so the timings be perfect. His first match took less time ta win than he'd been waiting in the queue, with the Sentimentals beating the Ninnies 3-0. He says he got some licks in, but I suspectifies that it were so mismatched in didn't matter if he were there or not. Second match were different - Ninnies jumped out to a 2-0 lead, then the Sentimentals dug in and screwed they's courage to the stickin' place (see! I's got culture!) and after about 45 minutes they eked out a 3-2 win. Dak sez he had hisself a grand time, charging and hamstringing and bashing and generally trying to be the shoe in the other buggers' machine. His numbers was only about average, but as I understands it that's how it oughtta be fer us warriors.

Afters he were in Stormwind checkin' his mail and whatnot when this tall drink of Nelflesh comes up and starts talkin' to him. Turns it it were A____, one of the veterans in his twinky-dinky guild. She checked out his gear and his form and bitch-slapped him a coupla times in a friendly way fer not having a tabard yet. Then she goes and buys him one (he's wearin' it in the pic aboves) and sez "Wear yer colors proud, newb!" or somethings like that. Then she invites him to do some 2v2 arenafications with her. "Sure" he says, all clueless.

They did three rounds together, winning'em all. I expects she were checking out his action, seeing if he were a trainable guppernumper or just a complete waste of oxygen and pixels. Looks like he didn't totally fuhg up, 'cause afters she said she were lookin' forwards to runnin' BGs with him (after he's had some more practice). So goods fer him.

Yay on Them

Got another update from Dakoneris. (Sonvar asks how I get messages translated - answer is I pay a mage to run'em through some babelfish thingy. Dunno how it works - I can't be bothered to keep track of the details.) Anyhow, he says that Miss Hydrargyrum and Miss Aurum and Miss Frigg and Miss Jaxs has all been helpings him out with quests and gear and mats for his professions. And he thinks they's all damn fine peoples. So yay on them.

And until I can come up with some serious cleverfications, I can't do nuthin' to reciprofy. They's just doing it 'cause they nice (despite that one of'em is also evil). So I says double yay on them.

And Jaxs helped the lad get some decent pants today, so he won't catch cold runnin' around in that skimpy loincloth. I thinks that's for the best.

A Progress Report

Got an update from Dakoneris, the Night Elf twinky-dinky I's sponsoring. First thing I have to say is, Dude, nice pants. Or lack thereof. I knew it - Hydra's having her some fun dressing up her toy WSG warrior.
Lessee now, he's now in his fourteenth season. He reports that he and Miss Hydrargyrum (he talks so formal-like) have cleaned up some bandits in Westfall and evil druids in the Barrens. TRANSLATION: Hydra wiggled her fingers and slagged the poor buggers' faces off while Dak ran along behind with a wheelbarrow and scooped up loot. Looks like they pulled in some decent junk, too: Blackened Defias Armor, Cobrahn's Grasp, Gold-Plated Buckler, Venomstrike, Taskmaster Axe, Smite's Reaver, Serpent's Shoulders. Great googly moogly. I sure coulda used some of that when I were a young whippersnapper. Course he can't use none of it 'til he's a bit more seasoned, so right now he's got one huckuva bank account. Note that the shoulders and chestpiece is leather, not mail. Hydra likes her some leather.

And he says Miss Frigg (he so polite) sent him a Searing Blade, what just happened to be sitting in her bank account. Yeah-huh. Looks like Hydra ain't the only one having fun dressing up the lad.

So what's this boingy-eared warrior doing when he ain't showing off his legs for the wimmenfolk to make goo-goo eyes at and slip him blues? He says he's been studying engineering, progressing far enough to make hisself a pair of Flying Tiger goggles, which he's planning to replace with Green Tinted goggles soonish. I's pleased to hear he has his first aid and fishing skills maxed out, but the boy is lagging on his cooking. Tsk, tsk.

Well, all-in-all I'd haveta say the boy's coming along. And Hydra's doing a good job of helping him along, which I appreciates since there ain't nuthin' I can do fer the purple-haired bugger. Maybe another week and he'll be in Warsong Gulch defending the honor of the lumber, or whatever it is them Silvertoungue Sensibles do.

And yeah, I said I weren't gonna post for a while. Well, I changed me mind. Up yours.
