Being Sociables in the Hinterlands

This tasty piece of Elfflesh be ... um ... Alianna? Ayalla? Analynda? Fuhggit. I can't be bothered to remember the details. Anywho, say hello, you buggers.

She's one them High Elfs, which be differents from Blood Elfs in that they'd rather be at the bottom of the Alliance totem pole than make deals with nagas and demons and torture creatures of pure goodness and light and live in cities with creepy magic brooms. Whatevers.

There's this Helf base in the Hinterlands, but they ain't doing so hot. Apparentlies last spring some orc warrior with a huge flaming sword busted into they's compound, killing a buncha them, burning up they's secret records, and watching some of they's videos without rewinding afters. And even though they's part of the Alliance, they don't get very many visitors for to bring'em news or buy stuff or keep lonely Helf wimmen warm on a cold Hinterland night. I told'em they needed to order some of them big yellow exclamation points what float over yer head from that shop in Stormwind. Then they should offer to pay adventurers like me to kill stuff fer them. Like maybe those gryphons what be flapping around in the area, since the Wildhammer dwarves won't pay ya to. That'd bring in a lot more visitors. They said they were intrigued by me suggestion and would look inta it.

Pffft.

PFFFT.

I can't find your armory profile and thus inconspicuously and all Oceans-11-style find out what server you're on.

So I'm gonna do it the Ego way.

Tell me what server you're on, and I'll give you my superawesomeamazingfabulous butterball nut cookie recipe.

I am not opposed to bribery. Don't make me break out the chocolate.

I likes cookies :)

There's armory links at the bottom of the page, which ain't real convenient I admits. Should move'em back to the sidebar, but I's lazy.

Ratshag is can be found on Cenarion Circle (Horde side) or Drenden (Alliance side). Can also be found by searching Ratshag on the armory - there's only two on there, and they's both me.

How does it feel in that dwarven disguise not to be attacked by the gryphons in the area?

I am a priest of my word :

Powdered Butterball Nut Cookies

These delightful little cookies will keep you (and your guests) reaching for more. Be careful, they're addictively delicious!

Also, if you're not planning on sharing, halve the recipe lest ye go insane and become overwhelmed by sheer numbers.

2 sticks butter, softened ( -not- melted )
2 cups flour
3 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla or almond extract
1 cups ground nuts of your choice (pecans are a personal favorite)
Pinch of salt
Large ziplock baggie with powdered sugar

Mix everything together except the powdered sugar till you get a soft dough.

Shape the dough into 3/4 inch round balls (size may vary...I've found that the smaller 1-bite sized cookies are less messy) and place on a cookie sheet. Have fun, make them cubes, little hearts, whatever shape makes you happy.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 13 minutes. Taking less time and getting a soft mooshy cookie isn't a benefit with this particular recipe, it actually tastes better if you let it bake the whole way through.

Pull them out of the oven and let them cool slightly (just enough that they don't burn you). Very carefully, drop each cookie into the ziplock baggie full of powdered sugar and toss it around a bit, so it gets coated. Because the cookie is still warm, the powdered sugar will melt to it, just a little.

Sadly, one or two cookies may break at this point, being too fragile to handle the jostling of the bag. You'll have to put them out of their misery.

Now's the hard part. Let the cookies cool completely (or as long as you can possibly wait, at this point they smell too good to resist). Once they are completely cool, give them each a second coating of the powdered sugar.

And now they're done! They fit neatly into little mini-muffin cups that you can buy at the store, if you want to arrange them artistically. I know from experience they don't tend to last that long unless you make a double batch!

I recommend halving the recipe unless you have company. The full recipe generally requires two baking sessions, as all the cookies won't fit on the pizza pan I usually use for baking them. Also, I usually just cover the cookie sheet with some tinfoil rather than fussing about with sprays or grease -- they bake evenly, and I don't have to do dishes after. ^^

This recipe makes about 30 delightful little bite-sized cookies.

Note : You can get away with melting the butter if you need to, but it will affect the texture of the cookie , and they won't turn out quite as nice.

@Ego - Yumyumyumyumyum

@Sonvar - It feels dang weird. I keep trying to either fight'em or avoid'em. It don't help that I were farming'em just a few months ago fer feathers fer me Admiral's hat.

Thank you for making me laugh out loud about the rewinding. Those elves are surprisingly unsociable to Alliance. You'd think they'd be like the other elves and want us to kill lots of things to balance nature. Things tainted by crystals.

Alas, the Helf outposts aren't for Alliance to be friends with so much as another kind of humanoid for Horde to kill.

Quel'Danil, where Rats was, and Quel'Lithien in EPL, are sad sad tragedies. Ostracized by their own people for talking like their purple cousins, the Helves live in dangerous Lordaeron zones, patting back and forth while waiting to die. One would expect to see more of them in the ruins of Dalaran, or making do in Southshore or Stormwind.

Here's hoping Quel'Danil gets a Mudsprocket facelift.

Sad how 35-50 the world kinda dries up for Alliance, ain't it Rats? All those mid grind zones - Badlands, Feralas, Swamp of Sorrows, Hinterlands - are a lot more substantial for Horde. I know, cuz Eartho is 66 ;-)
