Is A Quick Shadow Priesty Question

Shhh. Talk soft. Me GM is watching me, and I can't let him know I's asking you buggers this. Don't want him to realize I's a newb with this priesty stuff. See, he says he owns me soul now, even though it be dirty and kinda sticky, and I don't want him ta go "Pffft! Not worth it" and chuck it out the window. So I's asking all quiet and discreet-like. Ya with me? Good.

Okay, so. Me question. Do shadow priests have any kind of AoE attack? 'Cause, I know them goody-goody holy types has this, but I can't do that. So, does I have something comparable and I's just too much the simple orc to find it in me spellbook? Or when I's got a swarm of buggies does I just need to burn'em down one at a time?

So, thanks fer helping me out here. And whatevers ya does, don't tell Fio!

No AoE for you face melters.

Thought maybe. Thankee.

Good thing I's a one-on-one killing machine, then.

Killing is more fun when it's one-on-one, anyway.

You can borrow Volley ability (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=27022) if you want. I hardly ever find that many places to use it since it has such a long cooldown and is sad compared to a lot of AoE abilities.

You have an AoE fear, though! That's like an attack! Ish!

Nope. What my shadow priesty does is bubble up then start a DoT rotation. Almost as much fun as one on one face melting, but with a longer drawn out death rattle. Also not as sure-fire as for a lock, but that comes under knowing your enemy well enough to avoid unwinnable battles :)

The only AoE (damage) priests have is Holy Nova. Tier three holy. That's 11 points to get there, but only you can decide if it's worth it.

@khol - yeah, but like other things in life sometimes one-on-two or even one-on-six makes fer interesting variafications

@sonvar - well, thankee

@bell - heavy emphasis on ish. But in can be fun in certain dungeons!

@grimm - Yeah, that's what I fall back on. Gots me the improved bubble and dot talents, which helps

@kirk what still needs a nickname - I's definitely going to be respeccing at 70 (only six levels to go!) and I expects I'll pick it up then. But fer now, is all shadowform, all the time.

Holy moly! Er... shadow moly? When I left your priest was still just a baby. Now he's a nearly grown face melter! Grats on the many levels I missed out on. I wanted to stop by and let you know I'm back on a semi-regular basis to both blogging and WoW. Hope to see you some time on CC :)

AoE, not so much, multi-mob killage in ecxutiatingly ironic ways, absolutely.

Pull the first with VT, SWP. Select the next, VE, SWP, VT. Select the next, VT, SWP (VE's still on cooldown) and the next, VT, SWP, VE.

Fear. They all go running away feeding you with health and mana while dying. Lovely :-)

Working with Tankadins: Tankadins hate CC which is good for us. Let the Tankadin get aggro for 5-10 seconds and start dotting wiht VT, VE and SWP. The mobs will continue to beat on the Tankadin giving him more mana and...giving him more mana from VT. Lovely :-)

Sadly, no real AoE though.

Tab and DoT, my friend. It's all just tabbing and DoTing.

Even Holy Nova is arguably subpar when compared to other AoEs. The damage it does is minimal; the healing it does is minimal. The point is usually wasted in most builds when you could instead pick up talents that'll be more effective for healing or survivability.

Which isn't to say that it's worthless; I've found two major uses for Holy Nova. First, if you're running lowbies through instances. Cast a quick Power Word: Shield, grab all of the enemies' attention, and then Holy Nova them down - painless and quick as long as your lowbies realize that Holy Nova generates no threat and that the first tick of damage they do might peel the mobs off of you. Second, if you're big into PvP - whether it's world, Battlegrounds, or Arena - Holy Nova can be a godsend. A rank 1 Holy Nova costs a mere 185 mana and can be used to break stealth; when fighting a couple of druids or rogues, that can be used to prevent them from getting the jump on you for a very minimal cost. I actually snagged Holy Nova on my Discipline priest who spends more time in the Arenas than my Holy priest ever would.

Looking forward to seeing you when you join the healing club!

When our raid leader fires up he has DPS split into three: Single Target Casters, Ranged Casters and AOE Casters. Shadow Priests fall into the first category - we shine when we stand off to the side and blast down one enemy :)
